Senegal announce final squad for Nations Cup, slams West Ham over Sakho
West Ham striker Diafra Sakho will miss the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations due to back injury
Published in Ahram Online on 08 - 01 - 2015

Senegal boss Alain Giresse announced his 23-man list that includes Southampton striker Sadio Mane despite his injury and excludes West Ham striker Diafra Sakho due to a recurrent back injury.
"Sakho is not on the list of 23 players, his back problem is even preventing him from moving," Senegal's coach Alain Giresse told reporters.
The Frenchman told French Magazine l'Equipe that they received 18 warning letters from West Ham that Senegal would face huge damages if either Cheikh Kouyate or Sakho were to be injured at the African Nations Cup.
Sakho sustained his injury on international duty in November and the Premier League side said that the player had been 'mistreated'
Giresse added that West Ham will not have the right to introduce the player in the Premier League games after preventing him to play in Nations Cup.
"In any case, if they don't want Sakho to come so they can turn around and play him, they are wrong. He does not have the right," Giresse said.
The president of the Senegal Football Federation Augustin Senghor also revealed that they will be seeking to prevent him from playing with his club.
"We're going to FIFA and the English FA. Obviously, West Ham have shown a lack of respect in waiting until the last minute before alerting us to Sakho's unavailability for six weeks and even his inability to travel by plane to come and join the squad," he told Senegal Press Agency on Thursday.
The 23-man squad:
Goalkeepers: Bouna Coundoul (Ethnikos Achnas FC/CYP), Lys Gomis (Trappani/ITA), Pape Demba Camara (Sochaux/FRA)
Defenders: Zargo Toure (Le Havre/FRA), Lamine Gassama (Lorient/FRA), Lamine Sane (Bordeaux/FRA), Kara Mbodj (Genk/BEL), Pape Ndiaye Souare (Lille/FRA), Papy Djilobodji (Nantes/FRA, Cheikh Mbengue (Rennes/FRA)
Midfielders: Cheikhou Kouyate (West Ham Utd/ENG), Pape Kouli Diop (Levante/ESP), Idrissa Gana Gueye (Lille/FRA), Stephane Badji (Brann/Nor), Salif Sane (Hanover/GER), Alfred Ndiaye (Real Betis/ESP).
