Egypt's Omneya Abdel Kawy failed to break her duck in duels with world number one Nicol David of Malaysia, losing 3-2 in the World Championship semi-final in Cairo on Friday after putting in a brave fight. Abdel Kawy, who also lost to David in the 2010 semis in Egypt's Sharm El-Sheikh, trailed 11-9 in the first game but won the second 11-9. She looked on course to emerge triumphant for the first time against David when she won the third game 11-8 but David forced a decider when she won the fourth 11-5. David reached the final after winning the decider with the same 11-5 score as she continues her bid to claim a record-breaking 8th world title. Abdel Kawy and seven times world champion David have met five times before in the World Championship, from 2003 to 2012, with David winning on each occasion. Fellow Egyptian Raneem El-Welily take on England's Raneem El-Welily in the other semi-final in Wadi Degla club later in the day.
