Tunisian Club Africain board have decided to sack their coach Kais Yacoubi following the club recent elimination from round 16 of the CAF African Champions league.
The assistant coach Lotfi Rouissi has been appointed as a care taker coach until the end of the season.
“We decided to sack both coach Kais Yacoubi and goalkeeper coach Bou Bakr El-Zaytony,” club spokesman Hisham El Zayb told Reuters.
Club Africain is expected to face severe sanctions by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after violent pitch invasion by their fans in the second-leg of the CAF champions league last 16 against Sudanese Al Hilal last Saturday.
Seeing their team in the verge of elimination, fans rushed the field seven minutes before the end of the match to attack the referee and visiting players with the aggregate score at 2-1 in the Sudanese side's favour. The club's officials are to protest against the referee's cancelation of the game.
“The referee cancelled the game without giving us the legal time to urge the supporters to leave the pitch. We will lodge a complaint for the CAF and we hope to receive the minimum sanctions,” El Zayb concluded.
Club Africain is now seventh in the Tunisian league table with 23 points, 14 behind leaders, E.S. Sahel which qualified to the quarter final of the African competition after defeating Diaraf (SEN) 5-0 on aggregate.
