Lebanese singer and actress Sabah died early Wednesday at the age of 87, Lebanese and local news outlets have reported. Nicknamed Al-Shahroura (the blackbird), Sabah was one of the most celebrated icons of the golden age of music and cinema in the Arab world. She sang hundreds of Egyptian and Lebanese songs and played roles in over 80 Egyptian films, some of which were blockbusters in the 1950s and 60s. Not only a star in Arab countries, Sabah also performed concerts at Piccadilly Theatre in London, Sydney Opera House, and Carnegie Hall in New York. Among her most successful films were Sharia El-Hub (The Street of Love) in 1959--where she played opposite iconic Egyptian singer Abdel-Halim Hafez--and El-Aydi El-Naema (Soft Hands) in 1963. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/116459.aspx
