Leaders of Egypt, Greece and Cyprus are poised to meet in Cairo Saturday in a tripartite summit to strengthen relations between the three countries, Al-Ahram Arabic website reported. This is the first tripartite summit between Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades. El-Sisi met with Samaras and Anastasiades in two separate meetings Saturday morning where they discussed efforts to combat terrorism as well as strengthening economic ties betwee Cairo and the two southern European countries. The tripartite summit will discuss a number of issues in the fields of economy, trade, tourism and energy. Both Cyprus and Greece have historically been at odds with Turkey, a country that recently fell out favour with Cairo due to its support for the now banned Muslim Brotherhood. Meanwhile, Egypt and Cyprus have enjoyed a strong relationship for decades, since the era of late President Gamal Abdel Nasser. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/115030.aspx
