The Pharaoh's problems ahead of Senegal and Tunisia clashes continue as Ahly Jeddah's Egyptian winger Mohamed Abdel-Shafi has been declared unfit for the two clashes due to a muscle strain. Egypt will take on Senegal on a do-or-die mission on 10 November at Cairo stadium, before meeting group leaders Tunisia five days later away. "Abdel-Shafi will miss our upcoming two clashes against Senegal and Tunisia," coach Shawqki Gharib told the Egyptian football Association (EFA) official website on Monday. According to team doctor Tarek Soliman, the international winger suffers a hamstring strain that needs three or four weeks of treatment. The former Zamalek winger, who was loaned to the Saudi outfit last month, sustained the injury during his side's win against El-Orouba in the Saudi league. Abdel-Shafi's injury comes as a major blow to coach Gharib who has now lost his sole left-back on the squad. Right-back Ahmed Fathi, is likely to replace Abdel-Shafi as he played the same role in the Pharaohs first game against Senegal last September. Abdel-Shafi's injury comes after Gharib lost his first striker, Amr Gamal, who will be out of action for around six months due to serious knee injury. Third in their group G with six points, the Pharaohs have no choice but to beat second placed Senegal to keep their hopes alive in the African qualifiers. Despite their double win against Botswana, the seven-time African champions fear missing the Africa Cup of Nations for the third consecutive time.
