Cairo Stadium to host Egypt-Botswana CAN 2015 qualifier Authorities will let the Pharaohs play on their home turn on Wednesday - and 20,000 fans attend the match
Egypt will play Botswana in the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers at Cairo Stadium on Wednesday. The game was initially scheduled to be played at the 30 June Stadium in north Cairo, but the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) board received approval to play it at Cairo Stadium, according to a statement on the EFA's website on Monday. Cairo Stadium has been subjected to renovation, especially for security measures concerning the gates and surveillance cameras. However, security authorities gave the green light to the Pharaohs to play on their home turf. Authorities also agreed to allow 20,000 fans to attend the game, despite a crowd-ban imposed on all matches due to political instability. Egypt have just revived their hopes in Group G after beating Botswana in Gaborone on Friday. The seven-time African champions are third in the Group with three points, four behind joint-leaders Senegal and Tunisia.
