Egypt's cinemas, moviegoers brace for Eid season: TRAILERS Two films featuring actors Khaled Saleh and Youssef Eid, both of whom died last month, headline list of holiday premieres
A range of Egyptian films will hit movie theatres starting Wednesday 1 October, luring audiences into theatres across the country for the customary Eid holiday marathon of the latest commercial releases. El Gezira 2, directed by Sherif Arafa This sequel to the acclaimed 2007 drama El Gezira (The Island) is the most anticipated of the lot. The film stars late actor Khaled Saleh, alongside Ahmed El-Saqqa, who was cast in the lead role in the first installment, and actress Arwa Gouda. El Gezira takes us into a small community on an island in Upper Egypt as the residents battle with the government, setting their own rules and social codes. ## Omar and Salwa, directed by Tamer Bassiouny and Mourad Mostafa Late comedian Youssef Eid stars in Omar and Salwa, a romantic comedy set in a poor neighbourhood and which sheds light on love and hardships experienced by ordinary Egyptian couples. A Sobky production, the film also stars Karim Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz, actress Poussy and popular singer Saad El-Soghayar. ## Wesh Segoun, directed by Abdel-Aziz El-Hashad Egypt's recent headliner Bassem Samra plays the leading role in Abdel-Aziz El-Hashad's Wesh Segoun. This drama/thriller follows an inmate on death row after he's charged with rape. Also starring Dina Fouad, Ahmed Wafik and Ahmed Azmy. ## El-Mowaten Bors, directed by Ramy Gheit Bassem Samra stars with Dina Fouad and veteran actors Ragaa El-Gedawy and Lotfy Labib. Director Ramy Gheit also makes an appearance in the film. A classic unattainable-love chase, the film follows an unemployed man and the woman he wants to marry. Gheit, 35, has played numerous supporting roles in the past, including one in Khaled Youssef's heart-wrenching drama Dokkan Shehata. El-Mowaten Bors is his directorial debut for a feature. ## Also debuting this season are mahragan music icons Okka and Ortega in the feature film 4 Kotchina. Other entries include: El-Nabatshy (The MC) by Ismail Farouk, starring Mahmoud Abdel-Ghany; Wahed Se'idi (An Upper Egyptian Man) by Ismail Farouk and Hazem Foda, starring Mohamed Ramadan; Hadeed (Steel) by Ahmed El-Badry, starring Dorra and Amr Saad; Romeo El-Sayeda by Hany Sabry, starring Ola Ghanem and Ahmed Azmy. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/112151.aspx
