Egypt and Sunderland winger Ahmed Elmohamady is delighted by his Sunderland team's 4-2 against Wigan and hopes to put the 9-game winless run behind them to realise a strong closure this season. "It was a big game for the players, the manager - everyone at the club. We needed that win after being on a bad run and it was the perfect time to get it,” the 23 year-old international player was quoted as saying on Sunderland's official website. “The fans stayed with us. When Wigan scored they kept supporting us and they were a big reason why we got the win,” he added. Sunderland had a mid-season struggle, as last Saturday's win is the first since the 2-1 away victory against Blackpool on 22 January. "Everybody can forget now about the run and look forward to a good finish to the season. We can move up to 9th with a win on Saturday and that is our aim,” Elmohamady said The Black Cats – who were on course for a place in next season's Europa League before their slip up - are 12th of the table with 41 points with four matches to go. "We were proud of the win last weekend and we can do it again on Saturday if we play the same way. Six points from two home games would be fantastic and that is what we want to do." Elmohamady, who has been usually used as a winger by Coach Steve Bruce to get the best of his speed and talent - is expected to slot at the right-back because of the injuries that have been storming Sunderland's defence.
