The United Kingdom has proposed a multi-national rapid reaction force to enable the West to “face new and evolving dangers.” Prime Minister David Cameron has pledged his country will contribute 1,000 troops if NATO endorses the plan. In his speech before the leaders of NATO members on last day of their summit in Wales in the UK , Cameron said: “to the East, Russia is ripping up the rulebook with its annexation of Crimea and its troops on the sovereign soil of Ukraine.” “To the South, an arc of instability bends from North Africa to the Middle East,” he added. He hoped the leaders will agree on the force, saying that NATO “must be able to act more swiftly.” “This would be part of a reformed NATO response force with headquarters in Poland, forward units in the eastern allies and pre-positioned equipment and infrastructure to allow more exercises and, if necessary, rapid reinforcement,” Cameron said. According to Cameron's plan, the new force would have the capacity to be deployed in 2 to 5 days anywhere in the world. It is not immediately clear whether such force will play a part of the “core coalition” the US -- a NATO member represented at the Wales summit by President Barack Obama -- says it is forming it to fight the Islamic State. He reiterated that NATO leaders were “united in condemnation of the barbaric and despicable acts” by the Islamic State, a group of militants that has recent taken over significant swathes of territory in Syria and Iraq. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/110042.aspx
