Unidentified armed men shot dead a police sergeant in North Sinai on Wednesday, according to Al-Ahram's Arabic news website. Security sources said that the armed men, who were driving a car, fired at Sergeant Mahmoud Hassan in Obour district next to Zeraa police station in the border town of Al-Arish. Security forces are searching the area for the assailants. Security forces have been fighting Islamist militants in the Sinai Peninsula since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi last July.
