Egypt's schools to open on time, unlike universities Egypt's education minister says schools will open their doors on time, unlike universities that will delay the semester to October
Unlike universities, Egypt's academic year in schools will start on time, Education Minister Mahmoud Abo El-Nasr said Saturday. Students are expected to start school 20 September, as per a decision by the High Council of Pre-University Education, Abo El-Nasr told state news agency MENA. He added that there is "complete coordination" with the country's security apparatus to ensure the safety of students. On Thursday, Higher Education Minister Sayed Abdel-Khalek said the new academic semester at universities would start 11 October instead of 27 September. He said university dormitories are not ready yet to receive students. Egypt's universities saw a tumultuous 2013-2014 academic year with frequent protests and clashes following the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi. The academic year 2014-2015 at schools will go on for 43 weeks. Mid-year holidays are expected to extend from 24 January to 5 February 2015. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/109540.aspx
