Britain wants safe, prosperous Egypt: New UK Ambassador
Published in Ahram Online on 24 - 08 - 2014

'An Egypt that is prosperous, active, safe, secure, and democratic for all; an Egypt that allows British people to succeed as investors and to enjoy as tourists', says new British Ambassador to Egypt
The newly appointed British Ambassador to Egypt, John Casson, said the aspirations of Egyptians to live in a stable and safe country are vital to the region and the entire world as he succeeds James Watt in Cairo.
Casson, who speaks Arabic, released a video on the embassy's Facebook page after presenting his diplomatic credentials to Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Saturday.
He said that a "great, successful Egypt" is good for the Egyptian people and for the British people as well.
He also vowed to "work hard" with the Egyptian people and government for the "Egypt that everyone wants to see."
"An Egypt that is prosperous, active, safe, secure, and democratic for all; an Egypt that allows British people to succeed as investors and to enjoy as tourists," Casson asserted.
Casson served as British Prime Minister David Cameron's Private Secretary for Foreign Affairs from 2010 to 2014. He also worked as Deputy Ambassador in Jordan from 2007 to 2009.
Casson was awarded the Order of St Michael and St George in the 2014 Queen's Birthday Honours List.
In the video message, he points out that he accompanied Cameron on during his visit to Egypt in 2011.
“I remember standing in this exact spot with PM David Cameron on his visit here and I remember the aspirations of Egyptians to create jobs, to live with dignity, a safe and stable country, and to have a voice in their future," noted Casson.
"These aspirations are not only important for Egypt, but for the region, and the entire world. That is why for several years it was my dream job to represent my country as ambassador in Egypt.”
