Didier Drogba's decision to retire from international football has surprised the Ivory Coast football federation, which says it wants to talk to the striker before giving its "official position" on the end of his career. Drogba announced his decision on Friday after 12 years with his national team, eight of them as captain. The 36-year-old Drogba has played in all three of Ivory Coast's World Cup appearances. Yet the Ivorian federation has delayed a tribute to one of its greatest players. President Sidy Diallo said the FIF was surprised by Drogba's announcement and would contact him "to determine the underlying reasons for this decision." Drogba couldn't inspire Ivory Coast to a major title during his time with the team but still scored 65 goals in 104 appearances.
