Published in Ahram Online on 25 - 06 - 2014

Full time: Greece 2-1 Ivory Coast
90+4 The referee blows his final whistle! What a dramatic winner. It's a very cruel night for the Elephants.
90+3' GOAL FOR GREECE!! Georgios Samaras powerfully fires home from the post despite Barry's correct guess.
90+2' Sios apparently stamps on the foot of an opponent as the referee points to the spot!!
90+1 PENALTY FOR GREECE!!
90' A close-range shot by Yaya Toure, who muscles his way into the area, is collected by the keeper.
89' Ivory Coast sit back in the dying minutes to ensure the invaluable draw.
87' Greece squander a golden chance to score!! The unmarked Salpingidis sends a low cross across the six-yard box when it looked easier to shoot from a tight angle!
85' Kalou wastes a chance for Ivory Coast! He picks up the ball on the left hand side of the Greece area but he opts to shoot rather than cross, with his effort cleared by the defence.
83' Ivory Coast make their final substitution. The lively Gervinho, who dished out the assist for Bony, is replaced with Giovanni Sio.
80' A Greek cross strikes the outside of the post!
79' Greece pile on pressure. They should win to advance as the group runners-up behind Colombia.
78' Ivory Coast striker Drogba is replaced with Ismael Diomande.
77' Greece make their final substitution. Karagounis is replaced with Theofanis Gekas.
76' Ivory Coast are now in pole position to qualify for the second round. They should tighten their defence in the remaining 14 minutes.
74' Bony finally finds the net! Gervinho collects a deft through pass on the right and pulls the ball back to the Swansea striker who buries the ball home.

74' GOAL FOR IVORY COAST!!
72' Ivory Coast go close! Bamba's header from a corner narrowly misses the target. The best second-half chance for the Elephants.
72' Christodoulopoulos's free-kick goes just over the bar.
71' Ivory Coast midfielder Serey Die is booked for a foul on Jose Holebas.
70' Bony's introduction did little to beef up the Ivorian attack. He is repeatedly dispossessed.
68' The bar denies a fierce Greece shot again! Greece are unlucky not to extend the gap.
67' Kalou skips past two challengers on the left and cuts inside but his curling shot misses the target.
66' Bony fails to control a cross from Kalou. The Ivorians are giving their worst display at this World Cup.
65' Greece look capable of adding another goal from one of their breakaways. Ivory Coast look toothless upfront.
63' Karagounis' ensuing free-kick strikes the defensive wall.
62' Ivory Coast winger Kalou is booked for fouling Vasileios Torosidis on the edge of the Ivorian area after a fast-paced Greek counter attack.
61' Lamouchi finally makes the first Ivorian substitution. Striker Wilfried Bony replaces Cheick Tiote.
58' Ivory Coast keeper Boubacar Barry pulls off an impressive save to thwart a powerful drive from Dimitrios Salpingidis.
58' Greece's steadfast defence makes life difficult for the Ivorians.
56' Greece defender Manolas makes a timely interception to clear the ball just when Kalou was getting ready to shoot from close range.
54' A chance for Greece to extend their lead! Lazaros Christodoulopoulos skips past central defender Bamba far too easily and sends a shot with the outside of his foot that goes just wide. Ivory Coast's porous defence is letting the team down.
53' Ivory Coast coach Sabri Lamouchi may soon introduce Wilfried Bony to beef up his attack.
51' The Greek defence remains tight though, clearing away numerous crosses from both flanks.
49' A curling effort from Tiote is saved by the Greek keeper. The pace of Gervinho may be crucial to Ivory Coast's chances in the second half.
46' Greece make a promising start to the second half as they seek to double their lead. A shot is deflected for a corner and the ensuing cross is headed away by Tiote at the far post.
The second half is underway
The referee blows his halftime whistle
45' The referee adds four minutes of stoppage time.
43' Yaya Toure runs down the right, skips past two challengers but his subsequent shot is blocked by the defence. Ivory Coast must at least equalise to stand a chance of reaching the last 16 for the first time.
42' Substitute Samaris pounces on a poor, short pass from Ismael Tiote, exchanges passes with a teammate and break clear to fire home with aplomb. Another defensive howler costs the Elephants.

42' GOAL FOR GREECE!!
40' Gervinho feeds Kalou and runs into the area to receive the return pass but the latter's back-heeled effort goes straight to the keeper's hands.
39' The Elephants were much better in their previous two games!
37' Ivory Coast's marksman Didier Drogba is booked for a challenge on Andreas Samaris.
36' Barry dives to palm away a right-wing Greek cross. Greece are more dangerous, especially on the break.
34' A low free-kick from Georgios Karagounis is easily collected by Boubacar Barry.
32' Greece almost go ahead!! José Holebas' powerful shot from the edge of the area following a fast-paced counter attack strikes the bar. The first real goal-scoring opportunity in the drab affair.
29' Drogba and Gervinho are energetic, but Kalou and Yaya Toure are still struggling to find their rhythm.
27' The tempo remains slow. Chances are still few and far between.
24' Greece are very unlcuky! They are forced to make another unscripted substitution, with injured goalkeeper Karnezis making way for Panagiotis Glikos.
23' A chance for the Elephants!! Yaya Toure steals possession on the edge of the area and tries to feed the overlapping Drogba in the area but his over-hit pass goes out.
20' The match is resumed after a brief stoppage following Karnezis's complaint. He is now ready to carry on.
17' Greece keeper Orestis Karnezis is getting treatment for an apparent back complaint.
16' Greece's crosses are still inaccurate.
15' Gervinho fails to make the most of a superb flick-on from the lively Drogba, with his mis-hit kick going across the pitch.
14' At the other end, Ivory Coast keeper Boubacar Barry makes a similar timely interception to collect a low cross from the right.
13' A dangerous right-wing cross from Yaya Toure is collected by Greece keeper Orestis Karnezis.
12' Kone is replaced with Andreas Samaris.
12' It seems Greece's Panagiotis Kone will not be able to carry on due to injury.
9' After a flowing move, Gervinho tries to break clear on the right but a timely interception from Konstantinos Manolas denies him.
6' The first six minutes are scrappy, with tame attacking attempts and inaccurate long balls hindering both sides.
3' At the other end, a cross from Ivory Coast goes out. They are likely to rely on long balls to feed the burly Drogba.
2' The first Greece effort sees a left-wing cross cleared by the Ivorian defence.
The match is underway
22:50 The players step onto the pitch for the customary pre-match national anthems.
22:30 Thirty minutes remaining before kick-off. The Elephants are eager to make history tonight.
22:05 Coach Lamouchi made two changes to his starting XI as he used Drogba instead of Wilfried while Kolo Toure is set to play his first game of the tournament replacing suspended Didier Zokora.
21: 55 Starting lineups:
Ivory Coast:Boubacar Barry - Arthur Boka, Souleymane Bamba, Kolo Toure, Serge Aurier - Cheikh Tiote, Serey Die, Yaya Toure - Salomon Kalou, Gervinho and Didier Drogba.
Greece:Orestis Karnezis - Vasilios Torosidis, Jose Cholevas, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lazaros Christodoulopoulos - Panagiotis Kone, Georgios Karagounis, Ioannis Maniatis, Georgios Samaras - Dimitrios Salpingidis.
21:45 Grief and Greece. Ivory Coast's preparations for the game have been hampered by the sad news of the death of the younger brother of Kolo and Yaya Toure. Lamouchi hailed their decision: "It's tough to talk about football when you get news like that. It seems inappropriate somehow. Our training sessions have been shorter than usual," he told FIFA.com.
"What Yaya and Kolo have been through is a real tragedy. We're here for them and their entire family. They had a crucial and difficult decision to make and they decided to stay. Where I'm concerned, when I'm preparing for the upcoming match, I try to be as professional as possible. I speak to them as men, which is what they are. They made an extremely tough decision and I'm grateful to them for their courage," he added.
21:15 The president of Ivory Coast has given the player another incentive by doubling their bonuses if they beat Greece and reach the round 16.
20:45The debate is still on whether star striker Didier Drogba would start or not. The coach had concerns about his fitness so far and he thinks he had a big impact when he comes as a substitute.
20:15 The Greek haven't scored a goal so far as they lost to Colombia 3-0 and were held by Japan to a scoreless draw. They must win if they hope to go through.
19:50Greece also will miss their captain and influential midfielder Kostas Katsouranis who was sent off against Japan.
19:15 Coach Sabri Lamouchi will have to do without injured Didier Ya Konan and defender Didier Zokora who received a second booking against Colombia.
18:50 The Ivorians dream of a third time lucky as they were eliminated from the first round in Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010.
18:45 Ivory Coast and Greece clash in the Group final hoping to seal their qualification.
