Barcelona sign goalkeeper Ter Stegen, releases Pinto Jose Manuel Pinto's contract has expired, ending a run which saw the keeper help Barca win 16 titles
FC Barcelona have signed young goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen from Borussia Mönchengladbach to replace José Manuel Pinto. "The Board announced the signing of Marc-André Ter Stegen," the Spanish club revealed on Monday via its official Twitter account. Born in 1992, Ter Stegen delivered a series of eye-catching performances with the German side since he began starring with them at the age of 18, inspiring the side to finish sixth in this season of the Bundesliga. However, Pinto's contract with Barca has expired after six-and-a-half years and he will no longer guard their net. The 189-cm-tall player is famous for his solid goalkeeping and quick reflexes. He has 34 league caps in which he conceded 43 goals and made 138 saves. He appeared with his national team Germany in May 2012 against Switzerland. He played a total of 73 games and won 16 titles: four La Ligas, two Champions Leagues, two Copas del Rey, two European Super Cups, four Spanish Super Cups and two Club World Cups. Just two days after ending his first season in six years without a major trophy, Barcelona have turned to one of their own, former captain Luis Enrique, to restore the glory days at the Camp Nou.
