Police officer shot dead in Egypt's Sharqiya

A police officer was killed on Saturday in Egypt's Sharqiya governorate after unknown assailants opened fire at him, Ahram Arabic website reported.
Officer Yasser Abd El-Aziz was heading home after finishing his shift when the assailants shot him. A passerby, riding a motorcycle, was injured in the crossfire and transferred to hospital.
Targeting of police and army personnel has been common in Sharqiya in the eastern Nile Delta, with at least 15 dead since February.
Hundreds of police and military personnel have been killed since the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi by the army last July following mass protests against him.
Militant Islamist group Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis has claimed responsibility for most of the major attacks against police and military targets.
