International Medical Centre, 42km from Cairo, readies to receive Mubarak The armed forces run International Medical Centre is readying to receive Hosni Mubarak for the second time, yet under dramatically different conditions
Arrested former President Hosni Mubarak is yet to arrive at the armed forces run International Medical Centre (IMC), located along the Cairo-Ismailia desert road, a source at the IMC told Ahram Online, refuting earlier media reports that the arrested prisoner had arrived at the centre early this morning. The Prosecutor General had ordered the transfer of Mubarak from the Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital, some 510km from Cairo, to the IMC, which lies a mere 42km to the east of the capital city. The IMC source told Ahram Online, Mubarak will be put in Room B2 in the intensive care unit on the fifth floor of the state-of-the-art medical centre, which is yet to operate at full capacity. Other than preparing the room in which Mubarak will be held, the kitchen has been alerted to make special preparations, the source said, adding that on the one previous occasion Mubarak had stayed at the IMC, he had his own cook along. Mubarak had last year spent a couple of hours at the IMC, where he underwent some medical investigations, prior to his travelling to Germany for surgery. The heliport, adjacent to the centre, is also in a state of readiness to receive the arrested president, and his entourage, the source said, adding that a full battalion of the armed forces has also been in a state of readiness since last Wednesday to guard the centre and the important prisoner to be held within its walls. The IMC, according to some members of staff, is especially vulnerable due to its remote location in a desert area, and has been subject to attacks by armed thugs during the period of security collapse in the country.
