Fans to attend Zamalek match in DR Congo despite deaths DR Congo's Vita Club will allow only 5,000 fans to attend their match with Zamalek on Sunday after riots in Kinshasa last week left 15 dead
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that a maximum of 5,000 fans will be allowed to attend the next Champions League game hosted by the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Sunday. "Only 5,000 fans can attend the AS Vita vs. Zamalek match in CAF Champions League at Tata Raphael Stadium Kinshasa," the Confederation posted on their official website on Wednesday. Egyptian side Zamalek are flying to the central African country to kick-off their CAF Champions League Group stage competition. Last Sunday, fifteen people were killed and 21 others injured after trouble broke out at a football match in the DR Congo capital Kinshasa during which police fired teargas at fans. The match was an important play-off between popular teams ASV Club and Tout Puissant Mazembe. Zamalek are currently struggling in the Egyptian Premier League under the leadership of coach Ahmed Hossam 'Mido'. Their last Champions League trophy was in 2002. They are second on the competition's history book with five trophies in 1984, 1986, 1993, 1996 and 2002. Their arch-rivals Ahly have won it eight times but were eliminated in the round of 16. Beside Zamalek and Vita Club, Group A also includes DR Congo's TP Mazembe and Al-Hilal of Sudan.
