CAIRO: Recently elected parliamentarian Amr Hamzawy said he rejected the establishment of an advisory council which was announced by Egypt's ruling military council. "I do not see the need for or purpose of this council and we don't want to prolong the time in which the military council is in power,” said Hamzawy. “In any case, it is in the best interests of the council to step down as soon as possible from power." During the press conference yesterday Hamzawy said he refuses the withdrawal of the powers of the elected council and giving them to any appointed council, whether for the creation of a committee to write the Constitution or for any other reason. Hamzawy said this is a way of circumventing the ballot box, especially since the constitutional amendments approved by a referendum in March state that the new parliament is responsible for choosing a constitutional committee. “The rights of parliament must not be withdrawn for any reason," he added.
