CAIRO: Egyptian security forces arrested seven demonstrators in Cairo's iconic Tahrir Square today as clashes between demonstrators and security continued into the afternoon. Activist Ahmed Dooma, a former member of Youth for Justice and Freedom Movement, was among those arrested. Some demonstrators had decided to start a sit-in in Tahrir Square calling to implement the demands of yesterday's Friday of One Demand demonstration. They called on Egypt's ruling military council to hand over power to a civilian authority as soon as possible. It was said that Dooma is on a hunger strike in solidarity with activist Alaa Abdel Fattah, calling for Alaa's release and opposing military trials for civilians. Alaa is currently in detention by order of Egypt's military prosecution for refusing to answer questions before the military prosecution as a civilian.
