CAIRO: The Democratic Front Party (DFP) today denounced the military attorney's decision to summon professor Ahmed Drag, a leader in the National Association for Change, for questioning. The DFP also denounced the 15-day extension of Alaa Abdul Fatah's detention. Fatah is accused of inciting violence between Coptic Christians and the military forces during the clashes at Maspiro last month. The Party also condemns the military trials for civilians and activists, particularly Fatah. “Military trials for civilians are against all international rules and principals,” the Party said. “Transferring civilians to military courts infringes on Egyptian citizens' rights and freedoms.” The DFP cited the health concerns surrounding Dr. Lila Soueif, the mother of detained Fatah, who recently undertook a hunger strike to protest her son's imprisonment. They asked the military council to reconsider Fatah's case, transfer him to civil court and meet their promise to stop military trials for civilians.
