The coordinator of the campaign to support Egyptian Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi as a president, said that 17,000 Egyptians across Egypt support the group. He said that campaign funds do not exceed 5,000 EGP (U.S. $839). Mahmoud Atiya said that the next phase would witness moves by the campaign across different Egyptian governorates to attract as many supporters as possible. Atiya said that the campaign's founders would work on a statement supporting Tantawi, before distributing it in different governorates. These steps would come after campaign coordinators discuss how to implement these decisions, according to Atiya. At a press conference Sunday, Atiya criticized those that have launched broadsides at the campaign, explaining that the state needs military rule. He said military rule is the best and the most efficient way to run a state during the transitional period.
