A number of activists and intellectuals released a statement Wednesday claiming solidarity with Alaa Abdel Fatah's mother Lina Soueif, who is undertaking a hunger strike to protest her son's imprisonment. Abdel Fatah is accused of inciting violence against the armed forces and sabotage during the Maspiro clashes last month. The statement said Soueif's hunger strike is a respectful action, not only as a mother but also as a prominent intellectual figure that participated in the revolution. In their statement, activists called on rapid release of Abdel Fatah and threatened to join the hunger strike. They rejected military trials for civilians and called for their cessation. Political activists and public figures signing the statement included: Mona Mina, Abdel Galil Mostafa, Ammar Ali Hassan, Ayida Seif el-Dawla, Karima El Hefnawy and Salah Adly.
