The Egyptian Ambassador to United States, Sameh Shokry, said his embassy in Washington would provide all necessary facilities for Egyptians in United States to obtain a national identification card, announcing that Egyptians can come to the embassy to receive one. National identification cards will be used to vote in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Work hours at the embassy were extended until 8:00pm to make it easier for the Egyptian community to obtain IDs. Those who will receive a national ID card should bring all available Egyptian paperwork, said the ambassador. Shokry added that the committee started its work Thursday in Washington and would continue working for three days. “This step comes in response to the most recent meetings with members of Egyptian community members and their demand to receive an Egyptian national identification card,” Shokry said. Shokry noted the American administration expressed its readiness to help and provide facilities to organize the voting process.
