The military and police forces yesterday imposed a curfew on the Sohag villages of Awald Yahya and Awald Khalifa in an attempt to control the violence that broke out yesterday evening between the two villages. The security forces restored traffic on the Sohag-Qena Road after it was blocked by a number of residents. A violent brawl between residents of the two villages broke out yesterday and escalated into a gun battle, leaving seven people injured. Those with injuries were transferred to a Sohag hospital in military vehicles. Assistant Sohag Security Director Gen. Abdul Aziz Nahas cut his holiday short and returned to the governorate to follow the incident. The Sohag Security Department is currently implementing measures to contain the crisis and restore calm between the two villages.
