Leader in the National Association for Change and parliamentary candidate George Ishak today condemned the threats lodged by Islamic political powers in response to Deputy Egyptian Prime Minister Ali al-Selmi's document. Dialogue must be launched to reach popular approval for the document, Ishak said, adding that he approves of the document, save for Article Nine describing the army's budget. “The article must be amended, but I approve of the standard of selection for the founding committee's members in the condition in which there were elected,” he said. The Islamic trends have a right to reject the document, but they must respect democracy and the majority's opinion, he added. He also urged the Supreme Committee of Elections to prevent all religious slogans during the upcoming elections. “I have a complete vision for the future of Egypt,” he said. “It sets the principles of the civil modern state, which are the firm application of law, the condemnation of discrimination and the participation of all Egyptians in public life without polarization.”
