Passengers from the Egyptian ferry that caught fire in the Red Sea yesterday, Bella 1, protested yesterday after they arrived at Nuweiba port. They asked for compensation for their luggage which was lost in the ferry. The ferry was coming from Jordan to Nuweiba when it caught fire. The Egyptian armed forces managed to control the fire, and 12 passengers were wounded and one Jordanian died after he jumped into the sea. Head of Red Sea Ports Mohamed Abdoul Kader said all passengers will be compensated in accordance with the passengers' rights law. Abdoul Kader said “a new office on the port will be dedicated to passenger complaints as well as documenting a record of the lost luggage.” Abdoul Kader also said the Queen Nefertiti Ferry transported the last 24 passengers who had been injured, after they received first aid in Aqaba, Jordan, which was the reason for their delay in arrival. “Bella Captain Tarek Abdoul Aal played a heroic role in rescuing the passengers of the ferry. He handled the situation extraordinarily,” said Abdoul Kader. In the meantime, a General Attorney team in South Sinai will investigate the circumstances of the accident in order to find out the main reason behind the fire.
