CAIRO: The fact-finding committee charged with the investigation into the Maspiro clashes today released a report claiming that the military forces did not use live ammunition in dispersing protestors. The military fired blanks in the air to disperse the demonstrators, the report claims. Live bullets were fired on demonstrators, killing seven and injuring many more, the report conceded today at a press conference at the National Council for Human Rights, but stops short of attributing the shots fired to any group or person The report also claims that the clashes resulted in one death and several injuries amongst those in the military forces. Some eyewitnesses claim that firing began when unknown assailants infiltrated the demonstration on motorcycles, and fired live ammunition at both protestors and military forces. However other eyewitnesses claim to have seen armed snipers and assistants on the October Bridge. Others still say that demonstrators were attacked with live ammunition during the march from Shoubra to Maspiro.
