An Israeli delegation will arrive in Egypt on Wednesday to meet with Egyptian officials at the Intelligence Authority and Foreign Ministry to discuss the return of a new Israeli ambassador to Cairo, Israeli Foreign Ministry sources reported today. Director-General of the Israeli Foreign Ministry Raphael Barack will arrive in Cairo to hold talks with Egyptian officials about the return of new Israeli ambassador Yaacob Amitai, sources told Israeli newspaper Haaretz. Egyptian diplomats announced that relations between Egypt and Israel have gradually improved after recent demonstrations in front of the Israeli embassy in Cairo two months ago, the paper claims. Egyptian diplomats said that “two countries are working to take serious steps to allow the Israeli ambassador's return,” the paper added. The Israeli Shin-Bet demanded that the Israeli Foreign Ministry not send diplomats to the Cairo embassy until the Egyptian administration draft a security plan including the protection of Israeli diplomats and the selection of a new embassy headquarters, Haaretz wrote. Israeli public radio also reported that officials are working to find a new embassy headquarters in Egypt, adding that the Israeli ambassador to Cairo prefers to remain in Israel.
