A team from the Egyptian prosecution's office today visited Torah Prison to hear testimony from those who knew Essam Ali Atta, a prisoner who passed away recently while detained. Atta's prison mates said that he received a visit from his mother and sister who gave him some hashish and some other tablets. He then put the contraband in a sensitive part of his body to avoid detection. The tablets entered his intestines, and poisoned him, they claim. Prison guards did not torture Atta, they told the Masr Al-Qadema prosecution team. The team also ordered a expedited forensic report from Atta's autopsy.
