CAIRO: Essam Ali Atta, a 24-year-old prisoner who died last night in Tora Prison, died as a result of drug poisoning and not due to torture, according to a security source. The source said that Atta died after he swallowed a large amount of drugs in an attempt to hide them from prison authorities. The source added that both Atta and his father has faces many criminal charges before and that Atta was dealing drugs in the prison. Atta is a dangerous criminal who was accused in cases 10480/2004, 228/2010 and 723/2011, for which he was serving his sentence when he died. The source added that Atta's father was found guilty in two cases. Atta's family and Egyptian activists say the 24-year-old was tortured to death by being sodomized with a water hose. He is being called the ‘Second Khaled Said.' Said died on June 6, 2010 while in police custody. His death is considered to be one of the catalysts of Egypt's January 25 Revolution.
