CAIRO: Egypt's National Association for Change (NAC) has announced it support for a new television channel called El-Shaab Ureed, “The People Want.” The channel's aim is to build a free and independent media in Egypt through a popular subscription adopted by journalists and national figures who aim to revive the “virtue of volunteering.” The program's name is reminiscent of a number of chants popular during Egypt's January 25 Revolution, particularly, “El-shaab ureed escalt el-nezam,” or, the people want the fall of the regime. The NAC also called for a quick transfer authority to a government of “national salvation,” to cancel the Ministry of Information and ensure freedom of the media. They also called to form an independent national council for media rather than the Ministry of Information. The organization asked people to share in its protest tomorrow, Friday, outside the Journalist's Syndicate in downtown Cairo, to support television presenter Yusri Fouda. Fouda's satellite program was recent suspended.
