CAIRO: The Egyptian Cabinet will ratify the places of worship law Tuesday, which is amended to be as law of Organizing Church Building. Prime Minister Essam Sharaf met with a church delegation to discuss the law. The decree will be referred to the Egyptian ruling military council for approval. The Egyptian Catholic Church asked for amendments to the bill. The amendments include giving official licenses for all existing churches, to open all churches closed by the former regime, and resume church construction halted by the former regime. The Church also called for to amend Article 1 of the law, to specify the governmental body concerned with building, restoring, destroying, and expanding churches. The Engineering Administration currently oversees such processes. It also demanded to apply the law to all governorates, so governors cannot impose their own laws.
