TEL AVIV: Israel today began to transfer prisoners – slated to be released according to the prisoner swap deal – to prisons in mid- and south Israel, according to Israeli radio. These prisoners will be released according to a prisoner swap agreement hammered out between Israel and Hamas. The agreement is contingent upon the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit who has been detained for over five years. The Palestinian prisoners will be given medical exams in both the Kitzbout Prison – near the Egyptian border – and the Sharon Prison in central Israel. The Israeli Prison Service announced on its website the list of prisoners to be released in exchange for Shalit.
