Editor's Note: the following is a translation of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces' most recent electoral law amendments. Article (49): It is decided to imprison those who; • Express opinion in elections or referendum without having the legal right • Impersonate another person in order to participate in elections illegally • Participate in the same election or poll more than one time The head of the Supreme Committee for Elections has the right to invalidate votes of those who commit the crimes of this article. Article (50): Anyone who takes, destroys, manipulates, or changes ballot boxes that contain election cards, will be imprisoned. Article 2 Provisions of 50 Repeated and 51 Repeated A will be added to Law No. 73 of 1956. Article 50 (Repeated): Electoral campaigns that depend on religious slogan, sexual discrimination, or racial segregation, are banned. Any one breaking this prohibition will be imprisoned for three months and pay a bail of 5,000 to 10,000 EGP (U.S. $840 to $1,680). Article 50 (Repeated A): The Attorney General will investigate any crimes mentioned in this decree. The attorney has the right to detain the accused until he is transferred to the criminal court. The General Association of General Assembly of Appeal Courts or a lower court will determine a region to discuss the crimes and issue a court ruling. Article 3: Any court ruling contradicting this decree will be cancelled. Article 4: This decree will be published in an official newspaper. It will be enacted on the second day of its publication.
