CAIRO: The presidential council of the New Independents Party (NIP) demanded that Egypt's ruling military council hand over power to a civilian authority. They also demanded reviewing recent amendments to Egypt's elections law. The representatives of the party threatened to boycott Egypt's upcoming parliamentary elections, saying the military council lacks the clear vision or political will to establish a healthy parliamentary life through which Egyptians can achieve the demands of the January 25 Revolution. Party spokesman Mahmoud Abdel Karim said there are attempts to circumvent the Egyptian people's desire for a civil state. He criticized the recent division of the electoral districts, which will not allow people who run for elections for the first time to join the parliament. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party criticized the policies adopted by the ruling military council, particularly after amending the constitutional announcement without consulting the political powers which represent the Egyptian people.
