CAIRO – The Administrative Judiciary Court, headed by Judge Saeed Sayed Ahmed, today decided to hold a lawsuit demanding the cancellation of a land sale contract (459 acres in New Cairo) involving former Egyptian First Lady Suzanne Mubarak and her cousin Mohamed Thabet. The next hearing will be October 25. Manager of the Egyptian Center for Integrity and Transparency Mohamed Shehata submitted the lawsuit before the Court earlier in the year. The contract states that parcel number 53, measuring 459 acres, in New Cairo was agreed to be sold in December 2005. The land was sold for 250 EGP (U.S. $41.95) per meter when at the time the value was approximately 4,000 EGP (U.S. $671.23) per meter. The land was sold to New Cairo Company for Contract Investments, owned by Mohamed Thabet and Khaled Abu Taleb. The lawsuit alleges that this sale violated the Law of Tenders and Auctions number 98.
