Top story / news: Links: , Tahrir Square, , CAIRO: Five Egyptian Islamic movements today called on the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to dismiss the Syrian ambassador and sever diplomatic ties with the embattled nation. The movements also called for freezing Syria's membership in the Arab League until a legitimate system is representing the Syrian people. The demands are coming from the Movement of Unity, the Salafi Youth Coalition, the Movement of “Egyptians Support the Libyan Revolution, Egyptians Support the Syrian Revolution and We Are the Salafis of Tahrir. The movements also released a statement urging Turkish people to help support the Syrians by putting pressure on the repressive al-Assad regime and caring for Syrian refugees on the Turkish—Syrian border. The movements highlighted the “sacredness of Syrian blood,” much like the “sacredness” of Palestinian and Turkish blood spilled in the Mediterranean during the freedom flotilla siege.
