CAIRO: The Israeli Army is on high alert after intelligence bodies suggested that militants from Hamas and other factions in the Gaza Strip might attempt to launch attacks on southern Israeli towns from the Sinai Peninsula, reported Israeli radio. The radio station said that intelligence sources revealed that potential attacks could be launched in response to the speech delivered by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas before the United Nations General Assembly calling for international recognition of a Palestinian State. The army extended its state of high alert for several days, sources said.
