The Egyptian community in Spain organized a protest outside the Spanish Ministry of Justice today calling to return stolen Egyptian funds in Spain and to extradite fugitive Egyptian businessman Hussein Salem from Spain to Egypt. Ibrahim Aboul Rous, head of the Egyptian community in Spain, said 75 people joined the protest. Protesters held signs in both Arabic and Spanish saying, "Hussein's money is Egyptian money," "Egyptian stolen money must be retrieved" and "Egyptian people have faith in Spanish justice." The head of the popular initiative to retrieve Egypt's stolen money, Moataz Salah, said this protest is a part of the initiative's pressure campaign. It comes days before the Spanish Supreme Court hearings to extradite Salem, which will be held September 26. Spanish lawyer Matheu Furtunato presented a petition last Friday to the Spanish national court to extradite Hussein Salem and to return the stolen Egyptian money. The petition included 55 Spanish signatures.
