Egypt won two prizes, Best Tourism Destination in Africa and Best Tourist Attraction in Africa, during the Oscar Festival for International Tourism in the Indian Ocean and African States. The Giza pyramids won in the Best Tourist Attraction category. “These prizes are very significant to Egypt as the government works to put Egypt back on the international tourism map after the January 25 Revolution,” said Hisham Zaa'zoua, the first assistant to the Egyptian minister of tourism. The prize shows that Egypt is a viable and attractive tourist destination as the balloting and scientific metrics used to evaluate destinations were fair and neutral, Zaa'zoua reported. “The award bestowed upon Sharm el-Sheikh's hotels and tourist villages is as a result of the great effort made by tourism industry officials in Egypt,” said South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda. “We have many projects in the pipeline to enhance tourism in the South Sinai governorate,” Fouda added.
