CAIRO: Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi today expressed his happiness with the results of the Egyptian-Ethiopian Relations meeting during which members of the Ethiopian delegation met with Egyptian diplomats and tackled bilateral problems. Zenawi said he discussed the case of the Millennium Dam, which the Egyptians call “The Renaissance.” “The meeting with the Egyptian delegation opens a new chapter in relations between both countries,” Zenawi added. Zenawi addressed his speech to one delegation member, an Egyptian farmer, saying he knew how farmers live, and pledged to support them. “The Millennium Dam, to be established on the Blue Nile, will increase Egypt's water share and benefit Egyptian farmers,” he added. “Both Egyptian and Ethiopian farmers are in the same boat and will share the same fate.” Zenawi also thanked Egyptians for the January 25 Revolution, claiming it opened a new chapter. “Islam found protection in the Ethiopian territories,” one delegation member noted. Top Egyptian officials including activist George Isaac and Egyptian ambassador to Addis Ababa Mohammad Idris attended the meeting. Ethiopian Foreign Minister Hailemariam Desalegn also attended.
