The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned Egyptian fishermen of entering the territorial waters of Tunisia for illegal fishing, especially in the biological rest period from June 1 until September 30. There were two incidents in which Egyptian fishermen were caught in Tunisian territorial waters. The Deputy Assistant of the Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs, Tariq Abu Sina, and travel advisors said the Egyptian embassy in Tunisia reported they will order maintaining fisheries in Egypt, including the application of the system to allow proliferation of fish in territorial waters of Tunisia. The Egyptian Ministy of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Thursday that Tunisian authorities decided to take strict punitive measures against fishing boats during the resting period in violation of Tunisian law, whether Tunisian or foreign. The Tunisian authorities said they will give financial subsidies for fishermen who refrain from fishing during the rest period.
