CAIRO: Cairo's Supreme Administrative Court will consider an appeal filed by prominent politician Ayman Nour to reconsider the rejection of the establishment of the new al-Ghad al-Gedid Party by the Parties Affairs Committee. The court, headed by Judge Magdy Agati, will consider Nour's appeal on September 25. The Parties Affairs Committee rejected the establishment of al-Ghad al-Gedid (the new al-Ghad Party), on the grounds that the name is similar to that of the existing al-Ghad Party. The party was also rejected because of its decision to lower the membership age from 18 to 16. Nour founded the original al-Ghad party in 2004. There was later a division in the party, with some members recognizing Nour as the true head of the party and others considering Moussa Mustafa Moussa, the leader of a faction, to be the true party head. While a court decision initially recognized Moussa's faction as the true al-Ghad, the faction led by Nour considered the decision to be politically motivated. Another court ruling later overturned the initial decision. There is still controversy among members of Nour's faction and members of Moussa's faction regarding which is the true al-Ghad. Nour's faction considers al-Ghad al-Gedid to be a rebirth of the original al-Ghad Party.
