Thousands of Egyptian teachers today organized a protest outside the Council of Ministries demanding the dismissal of the Minister of Education Ahmed Gamal as well as increased salaries and bonuses. Teachers from 14 Egyptian governorates convened on the Council today to participate in the so-called Teachers' Intifada, which was organized by independent teacher movements. The protestors banded together and stopped traffic flow on the heavily used Qasr al-Einy Street while the armed forces tried to remove the road block. The protestors call for the minister's dismissal because of his repeated refusals to raise salaries or put a minimum wage on salaries. Teachers are planning to strike during the first week of the school season if the government fails to meet their demands, reported Abdel Nasser, the representative of the Teachers Without Syndicate Movement.
