The Arab revolutions do not threaten Israel in the short or medium term said Moshe Yaalon, former Chief of Staff of the Israeli Military. Israeli radio reported that Yaalon excluded the possibility that the region may witness comprehensive war because of the Arab revolutions. “Arab countries are busy now with their interior affairs,” said Yaalon. He said that Egypt is committed to the David Camp peace treaty with Israel. Egypt has economic interests in region and does not intend to spark any wars, he added. Yaalon also dismissed Israeli media statements that the weapons of mass destruction could be used in a war between Egypt and Israel. Yaalon said Israel is ready to resume negotiation with the Palestinians. “Palestinian resorting to UN membership threatens the Palestinian themselves, particularly after the U.S. administration threatened to stop economic aid,” said Yaalon.
