CAIRO: Likely Egyptian presidential candidate and head of the Nasserist al-Karama Party Hamdeen Sabbahi today said Turkey's decision to expel the Israeli ambassador and freeze military treaties “represents a government intent on dignity and national interest and which respects its regional role and international position.” Sabbahi also expressed his wish that Egyptian authorities had taken similar action after the killing of several Egyptian security personnel on the Egyptian—Israeli border last month. “Egyptian officials and their decisions must line up with the demands of the January 25 Revolution,” he added. He urged Egyptian leaders to dismiss the Israeli ambassador in Cairo, call back the Egyptian ambassador in Tel Aviv and reform the Camp David agreement – authorizing peace and diplomatic relations between Egypt and Israel – to meet new Egyptian national interests.
