EGYPT: The Egyptian Red Crescent will send one million EGP (U.S. $167,000) to the Somali Red Crescent, according to Mamdouh Gabr, Secretary-General of the Egyptian Red Crescent. Dr. Magda Sherbiny, president of the Egyptian Red Crescent, is currently visiting Somalia to receive Egyptian aid planes. Sherbiny requested the additional funds to bolster aid efforts in Somalia. He also visited the Turkish Red Crescent headquarters in Somalia to coordinate efforts to help affected Somalians. The Egyptian Red Crescent, the Turkish Red Crescent, and charitable donors all over the world are holding a relief campaign entitled, “Let's make Somalian children happier during Eid al-Fitr.” The campaign aims to battle the crisis in Somalia affecting 11 million people, most of them children. Somalis are at risk of dying from draught and disease.
