CAIRO: Egypt's Ministry of Electricity and Power has promised there will be no power blackouts during Eid el-Fitr, the three-day feast following the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. “The Ministry of Electricity and Power won't reduce loads on electricity during Eid but the ministry will continue applying an emergency state, which began at the beginning of Ramadan,” said the spokesman of the Ministry of Electricity and Power, Aksam Abu el-Ela. Abu el-Ela said there will be no blackouts even if the pressure on the grid increased due to the usage of lights. He pointed out the grid is largely influenced by the usage of air conditioners. The ministry reduced the load during the past month due to the increase in temperature and rates of consumption. This caused blackouts in many governorates, districts and cities.
